Southeast Water Project Update

A month and a half of hard work has yielded substantial results in the Southeast. 65,775 Haitian Southeast residents and students now have clean water because of our work over the past month and a half. That means that a total of 108,215 people are drinking clean water every day in the Southeast thanks to the hard work of community and school leaders, our staff, and you.

The Government in Haiti is really starting to take notice of our work in the Southeast. This month on August 3, we had a breakthrough. We met with the Director of DINEPA, Haiti’s water agency, and agreed in principle to sign an accord-cadre (partnership agreement) with DINEPA. This major breakthrough will help fulfill our goal to provide clean, safe water to every resident and student in the Southeast of Haiti. Even more importantly, it will pave the way for a permanent local distribution of chlorine tablets to all of the chlorinators in the Southeast.

Below are the communities, schools, and public buildings that now have clean water because of our efforts in the Southeast. The Phase II sites are the installations we have accomplished over the past month and a half.
Southeast Water Project

Phase I

In collaboration with Child Relief International, the ERM Foundation, the American Chemistry Council, the Dominican Sisters of Charity Springfield and the DINEPA Sud-Est, the Southeast Water Project installed clean water infrastructures in 12 schools (16,810 students), 2 public water stations (1,116 families), 1 hospital (20,000 patients per month),  1 police station (50 police officers monthly) and to the Police Station in Cayes-Jacmel benefiting 50 police officers and surrounding residents per day.

  14. Hopital Saint Michel  – 20,000 patients per day

  16. Community water station – Cyvadier – 500 families

Phase II

In collaboration with Child Relief International, the American Chemistry Council, and the DINEPA Sud-Est, the Southeast Water Project installed clean water infrastructrure in 4 schools (1,895 students) and 8 community reservoirs (63,880 people).
