In July, International Action installed chlorinators in three schools providing clean and safe water to 1,633 children. International Action’s intervention is a miracle according to Dr. Rémy, the pediatrician in charge of the schools for the African Methodist Episcopal Church Service and Development Agency (AME-SADA). Before the installations, children would go all day without water and sometimes faint to the dismay of their teacher. Now the chlorinators will provide them with clean water and give them the energy to focus and be livelier in class.
Cité Américain and its population of 5,000 benefited from the installation of two chlorinators to purify the water. Cité Américain is located only half a mile from the presidential private residence, but there is no electricity or clean water there. The water is contaminated with coli form bacteria and people are scared to drink because they often end up getting sick from diarrhea, typhoid, or hepatitis. We recently finished fixing the chlorinators to the water reservoir, and everyone there is thrilled. The fear went away. Our installations are praised by the local administrations and the leaders are all very enthusiastic.
