In the last week of July, the IA Clean Water Campaign Team installed LF-500 chlorinators on four water tanks in the Trou Sable neighborhood of Port-au-Prince. The tanks serve some 25,000 people, mostly children.
The team, led by Esther Dalebrun, met several times with the water board of Trou Sable. Together, they outlined the use of chlorine tablets and special testing kits to maintain a safe level of chlorine in the tanks.
Like most areas of Port-au-Prince, Trou Sable receives water through the municipal system three times a week and stores the water in four tanks holding twelve cubic meters each. Hundreds of people line up with buckets each day to carry water home, until the supply is exhausted.
