FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Washington, DC – June 16, 2011 – International Action — a nonprofit charity that provides safe drinking water for more than 400,000 people in Port-au-Prince, Haiti — is dispatching its team to Carrefour to combat the resurgence of cholera in the capital city. Since 2006 the nonprofit has focused on eliminating waterborne diseases in Haiti using a simple, energy-free chlorine feeder system that treats the water of the community tanks.
International Action offers its chlorinators and chlorine tablets — readily available at its Port-au-Prince warehouse — to any entity that needs them at no cost. Currently, the organization is providing clean water to over 421,500 people at 46 public water tanks, orphanages, hospitals, and schools throughout Haiti.
These neighborhoods include Tokyo, Trou-sable, Simmond Pelé, Cité Soleil, Carrefour and Delmas – some of the poorest and most dangerous parts of the capital. These chlorinators protect the water supply for the residents.
